The Current Security Situation

Local groups began a blockade of the Sajek road on 11 October 2026. On 22 October, a convoy carrying tourists out of Sajek was caught in violence, and six law enforcers were reported injured (opens in a new tab). As of 4 November, officials said Sajek would stay closed until further notice (opens in a new tab), and residents were facing shortages of food and essentials. If you'd planned a trip for these dates, Saint Martin is open for its season until 15 March 2027. Check its travel rules (opens in a new tab) before you book.

Follow the current road status and wait for an official reopening before you book.

Road Safety

  • Use a local driver: The road has sharp turns and steep sections, so a driver who knows it matters.
  • Stay inside the vehicle: Riding on the roof of a Chander Gari is dangerous, even if others do it.
  • Avoid CNG on this route: The Bangladesh Tourism Board (opens in a new tab) advises against it, because the road is very wavy.
  • Follow the convoy: Keep to the escort times and do not try to travel outside them.

Weather Safety

Monsoon rain is the most common natural risk. In July 2026 (opens in a new tab), heavy rain closed Sajek for eight days and tourists had to be evacuated. Check the live forecast before you leave, and keep an extra day free in case the road closes.

Safety by Traveller

  • Families: Choose a short itinerary, a room with an attached bathroom, and carry medicine and snacks. See family stays.
  • Older travellers: The road journey is long and bumpy, and Konglak involves an uphill walk, so plan shorter days.
  • Couples: Ask what ID your resort requires at check-in before you book. See couple stays.
  • Women travelling together: Stay in the main Ruilui Para area, share your plans with someone at home, and confirm your return transport.
  • Solo travellers: Ask the transport office about sharing a vehicle with another group, and avoid walking the road after dark. On a group trip, ask how the host is checked. Tripzic explains its host checks and emergency support (opens in a new tab).

What to Carry

Carry your ID, enough cash, your medicine and a power bank, save your resort and driver's numbers, and tell someone your plan. Our travel tips have the full packing checklist.

Prefer to travel with a host? Tripzic's Sajek trips include the vehicle and a tour host on the Above the Clouds package. Check the road status before you book.
