Sajek Valley Travel Guide

Everything You Need to Plan Your First Trip

The short answer

Sajek Valley is a hill destination in Baghaichhari Upazila, Rangamati, reached by road through Khagrachhari and Dighinala.

It's known for clouds, mountain views, Ruilui Para and Konglak Hill. Most people stay 2 or 3 days, and cost depends mainly on group size. Access can change at short notice, so check the road status before planning.

Planning Sajek is a little different from planning a city or beach holiday. There's one mountain road, a security convoy, limited services and weather that changes by the hour, so a good plan comes down to knowing what to decide first.

Chapter 1

Before You Plan: Is Sajek Open?

Sajek has closed several times in 2026, including for heavy rain in July. Yesterday's road condition is not today's, so check at least two of these before you leave:

Chapter 2

How to Reach Sajek

There's no direct public transport to the resort area. Most people travel in three stages, and our how to go guide covers each one, with a separate guide for Dhaka to Sajek.

  • Dhaka to Khagrachhari: Usually an overnight bus, taking about 7 to 9 hours. Book early for weekends.
  • Khagrachhari to Sajek: About 70 km by Chander Gari, through Dighinala and Baghaihat, usually with a security convoy.
  • Reach your resort: Most stays are around Ruilui Para. Make sure your driver knows your resort's name.

The Roads and Highways Department (opens in a new tab) maintains this route as road Z1603 and lists it at 65.254 km, with many bridges and culverts. Its listing is a road record, not a live status.

Chapter 3

What Does a Sajek Trip Cost?

Your biggest variable is how many people share the Chander Gari. Fares on the Khagrachhari counter chart are per vehicle, not per person.

TripVehicle fare
Same-day return৳8,000
1 night and return৳9,300
1 night with sightseeing৳10,700
2 nights and return৳11,500
2 nights with sightseeing৳12,500

Here's what a 2 day, 1 night trip from Dhaka can cost per person, using the planning figures in our cost guide:

Group of 12
About ৳5,473 each
Group of 8
About ৳5,899 each
Group of 4
About ৳8,278 each
Couple
About ৳10,835 each

A couple or small group may save money by joining a group tour. Tripzic, which runs this site, lists Sajek trips from ৳6,000, and our tour guide explains what to ask any operator. Be wary of anyone who says Sajek costs exactly one figure.

Chapter 4

Where Should You Stay?

Chapter 5

What Places Should You Visit?

A first trip revolves around one ridge rather than a long list of distant places. Our places to visit guide covers everything in detail.

  • Ruilui ParaThe central area, and a natural base for food, walks and viewpoints. See our Ruilui Para guide.
  • Konglak HillPanoramic views at the far end of the ridge, with an uphill walk. See our Konglak Hill guide.
  • Helipad areaA common stop for sunrise and sunset, and popular on holidays.
  • The mountain roadWinding through hills and forest, it's a defining part of the trip.

Chapter 6

What Should You Do in Sajek?

A good itinerary leaves time empty. A two-hour tea and cloud session can be more memorable than three extra stops. See the full list of things to do, and whether Sajek is worth visiting.

  • Wake up before sunrise: With a good east-facing view, you may not need to go far.
  • Walk around Ruilui Para: See the settlement rather than rushing between photo points.
  • Watch the sunset: If clouds cover the horizon, enjoy the atmosphere anyway.
  • Try local food: Ask what's fresh that day.

Chapter 7

How Many Days, and When Should You Go?

  • 2 days, 1 nightGood for first visits, limited leave and short group trips. See the 2-day plan.
  • 3 days, 2 nightsBetter for couples, families and photographers, with a second chance at good weather. See the 3-day plan.

There's no single perfect month. Compare seasons on our weather page, which has a live forecast. The Bangladesh Meteorological Department (opens in a new tab) publishes official warnings.

SeasonWhat to expect
October to FebruaryCooler and more comfortable, though October can still bring rain
March to MayWarmer, with better mornings and evenings than midday
June to SeptemberVery green and dramatic, with the highest risk of closures

In July 2026, heavy rain and landslide risk led authorities to suspend visits, and tourists were evacuated (opens in a new tab). Monsoon Sajek is beautiful but weather-sensitive, and clouds are never guaranteed.

Chapter 8

What Should You Eat?

Sajek has familiar Bangladeshi food, resort meals and hill cuisine such as bamboo chicken. Practical meal planning matters more than finding a famous restaurant. See the food guide.

Before you arrive, confirm

  • Breakfast, lunch and dinner times
  • Whether meals need ordering ahead
  • Child-friendly and vegetarian options
  • Whether barbecue is available
  • Tea, coffee and drinking water
  • Group meal arrangements

Chapter 9

What Should You Pack?

A small backpack is easier than a suitcase on mountain roads. Our travel tips cover cash, power and mobile networks in more detail.

Essentials

  • Comfortable shoes with grip
  • Light rain protection
  • A warm layer for cool evenings
  • Power bank and charger
  • Your medicines and a small first-aid kit
  • Water bottle
  • Enough cash for the whole trip
  • National ID and booking confirmation

Chapter 10

Safety and Responsible Travel

Sajek remains a hill environment, and its current situation matters. Read is Sajek safe? before you go.

  • Road safetyUse a properly arranged vehicle, and don't encourage reckless driving to reach a viewpoint faster.
  • Weather safetyIf authorities restrict travel, take it seriously, and keep a spare day.
  • Who to contactThe Tourist Police, Rangamati Zone (opens in a new tab) covers this district. In an emergency, call 999.
  • Local communitiesSajek is home to local communities. Ask before taking photos, and keep noise down near homes.
  • The environmentCarry your waste when bins aren't available, and avoid disposable plastic.
  • The next tripSee more Bangladesh destinations (opens in a new tab) from Tripzic. Planning a sea trip too? ShipTickets.bd (opens in a new tab), also run by Tripzic, compares Saint Martin ships from Cox's Bazar.

  • Night before: Take an overnight bus to Khagrachhari.
  • Day 1: Breakfast, meet your Chander Gari, travel through Dighinala and Baghaihat, check in, have lunch, explore nearby, watch the sunset and have dinner.
