Why Rangamati, but via Khagrachhari?
Sajek belongs to Rangamati District, but the Bangladesh Tourism Board (opens in a new tab) notes that it is much easier to travel through Khagrachhari and Dighinala. There is no regular direct route for tourists from Rangamati town, so the usual path is:
- Dhaka to Khagrachhari. An overnight bus. See Dhaka to Sajek.
- Khagrachhari to Dighinala. By Chander Gari, on the way to the checkpoint.
- Dighinala to Baghaihat. Where the escort convoy normally starts.
- Baghaihat to Sajek. The final climb to the ridge.
How High Is Sajek?
The official Bangladesh Tourism Board page (opens in a new tab) lists Sajek at 1,476 feet (450 m). Wikipedia (opens in a new tab) and press reports (opens in a new tab) give about 1,800 feet (550 m). The difference may depend on which point of the ridge is measured.
